How long is my quotation valid for?

Reid Removals quotations are valid for 30 days from the date of issue.

What happens once I have decided to go with your Quote?

Once you have decided that you would like to go ahead with your Quotation, call the office and we shall book that in for you.

How much notice do I need to give to book a move?

It is advisable to contact our office with your relocation dates as soon as they are known. The more notice the better, however we may be able to assist you with short notice as well. Temporary Bookings are welcomed

How long will it take?

When our consultant provides you your Quotation, they will explain to you how the Removal will take place and how long its estimated to take for the Removal process

What sort of documentation do I need to sign?

Acceptance Pages are included with the Quote or Booking Letter, we require these forms to be completed with your pick up & delivery addresses along with all available contact phone numbers. The Acceptance Pages confirm your booking with us.

What if my date changes?

Sometimes, settlement dates and/or entry dates can be altered. Should this happen, please contact the office as soon as you find out, so that we may allocate you the day of your choice. Please keep in mind the day you would like may be booked out already, so let us know Quickly!

Do I need Insurance?

In short, Yes. As good as any removalist is accidents do happen. You insure your contents when they are in your home and are unlikely to be damaged, so why wouldn’t you insure them when you put them into a situation where damage is more likely? Besides, furniture wasn’t designed to be transported around in trucks! All Risk Transit Insurance will cover any damages.

As we are not an Insurance Broker, we cannot give you a Policy. We can, however, refer you to Carts Removals Insurance whereby you can obtain a free quotation. The process is very simple and easy to understand. Their website is www.removalsinsurance.com.au, we also advise you to contact your own Insurance Company to find out if they have this type of cover for their customers and, if so, compare the prices.

If you decline to take insurance, but damage occurs, you will be unable to make any claim for any damage sustained

What time will you arrive?

Reid Removals will work during daylight hours or light permitting. When moving interstate it is difficult to confirm an arrival time in advance. We will ask that you be ready for pick up & delivery for 2 days & our driver will arrange his estimated time of arrival as he gets closer & less likely for hold ups.

What happens if I can’t be at the property when the furniture is loaded or delivered?

An authorised representative needs to be at both the uplift and delivery of your belongings. At delivery it is especially important that this person can advise the Reids Crew on the placement of furniture and cartons in the new home. You should inform Reids that you have appointed an agent and give them contact information. Alternatives can always be arranged so don’t hesitate to contact our office.

When do I have to pay for the work that is done? Do I have to pay up front?

In most instances, your payment is required upon uplift, except on local removals, where payment is made on completion of removal. It should also be clearly stated on the contract at the time of signing whether you are paying by the hour or by cubic volume, as well as for time spent travelling to pick-up and from delivery. Our Crew can accept cash, bank cheque or *credit card payments (*1.5% surcharge applies). Internet transfers must be visible on our bank statement prior to delivery.

Can I pack my own boxes?

Yes, you can pack your own boxes or the Reids Crew can pack for you - as many or as little as you like.

You will require:

  • Clean sturdy cartons
  • Clean newspaper
  • Bubble wrap
  • Marking pens
  • Tape
  • Keep aside all important documents and items you will need immediately in your new home
  • Pack one room at a time, with similar items in each box
  • Wrap each item individually and place a layer of cushioning at the bottom of the box, in the middle & at the top
  • Place heavier items at the bottom of the box
  • Label each box carefully with your name, the contents and the room it is to go into
Where can I get packing materials?

Packing Materials can be purchased through any removalist or storage facility or recycle centre within your local area. Reids do not insist upon clients using specific removal cartons & are happy for any sturdy cartons that can be closed to be used.

What items are you unable to move?

The following are considered to be dangerous goods and are not transportable:

  • Firelighters
  • Pesticides
  • Paint Thinners
  • Oil
  • Petrol
  • Kerosene
  • Methylated Spirits
  • Turpentine
  • Weed Killers
  • Photographic Chemicals
  • Swimming Pool Treatments
  • Under Australian Law, Reid Removals are unable to transport firearms.
  • In addition to the dangerous goods listed above, it is prohibited to transport explosives, ammunition and toxic materials.
What do I do with my clothes?

We ask that drawers are emptied before the Reids Crew arrive. Drawers that contain weight can move around in the unit and damage the runners for the drawer, whilst in transport. Clothes can be packed into boxes or striped bags for transport. We can provide Porta Robes for transport of hanging clothes and these can be supplied upon request. Our Crew will hand to you upon our arrival for you to place your hanging garments inside, you will need to unpack these at delivery & return to our Crew prior to departure.

What do I dismantle and assemble in preparation for my relocation?

You should dismantle your beds, trampolines, swing set & any large toys for transit. Reids can assist with dismantling & assembling your furniture at an additional charge.

What should I do if the volume of my shipment changes?

Please contact our office and we will review the quote.

What if something that I said wasn't going, now is going?

Call the office & we will review the quote & consult with you as to whether the size of the load will change and ultimately the price. This information is very important to ensure that we have the correct space allocation for your belongings.

What do I do if settlement doesn't go through or I cannot get access to my new property?

Should this happen, please advise the Office IMMEDIATELY. If you cannot get into the new property, but have to be out of your current property, your goods can be stored at our depot until such time as you can gain entry. The truck would still load all items, but come back to our depot instead of going to the new property. A small fee may apply.

If need be, can Reid Removals help me with storage?

Yes we can. We have the Perfect Storage Solution with depots in Melbourne, Brisbane & Hervey Bay where we can store your belongings in containers. We load your belongings direct into a storage container & hold at the best depot awaiting your delivery instructions. Our Hervey Bay depot also has Home Packs available for small amounts of belongings to be stored. Your belongings can be stored for any period of time – from one week to an indefinite period.

How am I billed for Storage Fees?

Your initial invoice will include a partial payment of removal fees (service completed so far) along with 4 weeks storage & our handling fee. An invoice will then be issued each month with 7 days to pay. Should you require your belongings to be delivered before the end of the term you have paid for a refund will be applied to your delivery invoice (which also includes the balance of removal fees).

Should the Crew remove their shoes/boots when walking in the house?

Due to Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, the Crew are not permitted to work without shoes. If you are concerned about your floor coverings, advise the office and we will ensure that extra pads are taken to cover the floors

Can I move my pets?

Yes, Reid Removals can arrange pet transportation with a reputable company who will take the best of care of your fluffy family members.

Can I move my car / boat / trailer / caravan / motor bike?

Yes, Reid Removals can arrange the transportation of your vehicles to your new destination with a reputable vehicle transport company.

Can I move my plants?

When relocating interstate, please consult with the State Bio security Quarantine regulations – the state that you are moving to.  Please visit www.interstatequarantine.org.au for additional information. Moving plants locally is not an issue.

Can I move food?

If the removal occurs on the same day and all boxes and jars are properly sealed, this is possible. No food will be acceptable for storage unless it is canned or vacuum-sealed

How should I prepare my fridge & freezer?

This should be emptied and wiped clean throughout. If it is going into storage, wiping the interior with vanilla essence will help keep any mildew at bay.

Is there anything I have to do to prepare appliances and machinery for removal?

You should always refer to the manufacturer’s instructions. We recommend you pay special attention to manufacturers’ instructions for washing machines, driers, computers, fridges and television sets.

Lawnmowers and other gardening equipment should have the petrol drained from the tanks. If you are sending these items interstate or into store, they will also need to be cleaned.

How do they send my furniture? Does it stay in the same truck that picks it up?

Your furniture is loaded directly into a Reid Removals truck or container for transport. Reids have a weekly service from Cairns to Melbourne, this avoids any necessity to transfer your belongings mid route. Reids prefer to handle your belongings the absolute minimum.
